Romania Boema
| Tradition and Avant-garde |
At the table of creation, a special collection has been conceived: "Romania Boema | Tradition and Avant-garde." Our artists came together and brought it to life as a personal sanctuary, a refuge allowing us to escape the external world. A sanctuary of good taste and of a life perfected by beauty, adorned with prints and colors inspired by Mother Tradition.
Each model was created for both its meaning and its beauty. We affectionately refer to these wallpaper patterns as "future heirlooms." This is why, within our latest wallpaper collection, Romanian traditions are transformed into poetry and art.
In the creation of this collection, we embarked on a journey through the wings of history, where our cultural heritage appears in an avant-garde light. Here, the eternal and the contemporary dance and intertwine in an unexpected harmony, giving birth to a kaleidoscope of colors and forms. Moreover, all these elements are captured through a unique symbolism. Each model represents a message of innovation and tradition brought to the same table, an echo of the past and a gaze into the future, a perfect fusion of Romanian ethnic heritage.
Context - Symbolism of Embroidery
From ancient times, Romanian folk motifs have conveyed much about the spirituality of the people. They served not only an aesthetic purpose but also as a form of expression for the individuals who wore them. Thus, the patterns on traditional blouses (ie) indicated the region of origin, social status, material and marital status, age, or occupation of the person. There was a specific blouse pattern for every occasion, from weddings to various religious celebrations throughout the year. Each symbol carries a distinct meaning. Some were even believed to bring luck or fertility.
We are delving into the inspiration behind pieces crafted by artisans specializing in age-old trades. Romania boasts a history of over three centuries in producing beautiful, high-quality carpets. This tradition wavered during the First World War, and it wasn't until 1950, when the Romanian government established cooperatives and standardized the carpet-weaving industry, that Romania experienced a revival in carpet production.
Today, the local carpet industry has all but disappeared. Through this collection, we aim to draw attention to the fact that cultural richness should not fade with time; instead, it should be cherished, reinterpreted, and brought into the present. In the Bohemian Romania | Tradition and Avant-garde collection, our Romanian traditions transform into contemporary art.
Sporty & Rich Combined with Romanian Ethnic Fusion
What was the goal of the collection? To embrace traditions, to twist them with a bourgeois, avant-garde, and eclectic touch. Each wallpaper roll tells a story, a narration of ancient tales experienced in an unfamiliar manner. Traditional motifs in this collection will merge with modern lines and abstractions, creating an eclectic ensemble of styles and influences. It's as if our cultural heritage is being tossed into the innovation blender, resulting in an ad-hoc blend of Romanian aesthetic elements. Consequently, we encounter designs enriched with the power to convey, treasures accumulated that carry hundreds of years of memories. These designs will be the ones turning a house into a sacred haven of the life we've chosen.
Reimagining and Redesigning Tradition for the New Generation
The patterns on embroideries were infused with various messages about the wearers. It's essential to know that the Romanian people have pagan spiritual origins. Therefore, alongside Christian beliefs, people heavily relied on symbolism to attain different aspects of their lives, such as luck, prosperity, or fertility. Clothing, among other rituals, was utilized for these purposes. For instance, at weddings, the newlyweds would be adorned in blouses with diamond patterns to symbolize fertility.
Heritage | Savoir Faire | Excellence
From Christian Dior, Les Benjamins, Tory Burch, Ralph Lauren, and more, they have all found inspiration in Romanian traditions, as well as from around the world. While the Egyptians built pyramids and left them to posterity, the Romanian peasant stitched dreams and stories onto blouses, aprons, and coats. They gathered their hopes, perceptions of the world, religious beliefs, and life views, and painted, hammered, embellished, carved, burned, and embroidered them onto various materials. Some have endured, others less so. The traditional Romanian folk costume is art and history simultaneously. It is the story of the Romanian peasant from origins to the present, from gatherings to village dances, where eternity was born, as Lucian Blaga once said.
